About Me
Hello, I'm Hannah!
I founded Hannah’s Home Tutoring at the beginning of 2026 after making the decision to leave the classroom after 8 years of teaching. I now work with a number of wonderful children and their families to provide tailored tuition, designed to boost confidence and resilience as well as ensuring academic progression.
I have a 5 year old son who is currently in year 1 and it has been so interesting to experience school life from a parents point of view – it’s definitely made me reflect on a few things!
In my spare time, I enjoy running and have recently completed two 10k events. I love anything crafty, such as sewing or creating things on my cricut machine. I also enjoy baking, going for walks, and travelling to explore new places.
My education background
After graduating from university with a degree in Primary Education with QTS, I secured a job at a local village primary school.
I spent three years teaching year 6 and loved it. Between residentials, being buddies to the new reception intake, sporting fixtures and exciting topics to deliver, it meant that life in year 6 was very busy! I also prepared children for their SATs, ensuring they felt confident academically and tried to reduce anxieties around testing.
I have so many fond memories from my time in year 6 – building an Anderson shelter in our outdoor area and surprising them with it when I sounded a siren during our WWII day, putting on performances such as ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat’ and ‘Gogglebox’ where one group acted out I’m a Celebrity and the headteacher was surprised to be called on stage for the eating challenge – real insects!
In my third year, during a game of hangman, I revealed to my class that I would be having a baby and everyone was very excited. What we didn’t expect was to go into lockdown a few weeks before I was due to go on maternity leave. In May 2020, my son was born and was a very good distraction from the chaos of covid!
I returned to teaching in April 2021, this time as a part-time, year 2 teacher. I quickly got to grips with the new curriculum, younger children, working as a job share and online learning – my job looked very different! Some highlights from my time in year 2 include trips to Windsor castle and Wisley, pirate days with water fights on the field and tie-dying t-shirts.
I then taught in year 2 for a few years until my job share went on maternity leave, when I transitioned to year 4. It was so lovely to teach the same class of children two years later in their school journey.
During my time teaching, I was also maths lead before I went on maternity, and then I took on the challenge of organising singing events and performances, including two school talent shows, where I was blown away by the children’s performances.
In December 2025, I left teaching to pursue a new role as a primary tutor. Saying goodbye to my class, other children that I’d taught and all their wonderful families was very emotional and lots of tears and hugs were shared in the playground on my last day!
